Gleesons BBQ Tips
…………
Get the right BBQ for you
There are pros and cons to both gas and charcoal BBQs and it’s too contentious a topic to get into here!! Whichever you choose, make sure it has a lid. This gives you a lot more cooking options.
Prepare your meat in advance
We have lots of great marinades and sauces in Gleesons and we also have products with no sauce so that you can add your own if you prefer.
Get your sides and salads organised beforehand
It’s too difficult to manage a BBQ and prepare food at the same time.
Wait for the right time to cook
Light the BBQ early enough. A charcoal BBQ can take up to 30 minutes to get to the right temperature.
Putting meat on the BBQ when you first turn it on will lead to meat that is scorched on the outside and raw on the inside. Chops and steak may be OK with this but other meat like sausages and chicken drumsticks should be cooked when the flames have died down. This means that the coals should be white on a charcoal BBQ. If you’re unsure you can always precook products like chicken and sausages in the oven for 20 minutes before placing them on the BBQ.
Have your tools ready
You will definitely need at least a good set of tongs to help you turn meat.
Don’t forget the vegetarians
Fish, vegetables and halloumi are delicious on the BBQ.
Make sure you give your food enough time to cook. You should always check that the meat is cooked through as it could still be raw on the inside even though it looks done.
